The Avengers, Fantastic Four, and most of the X-Men don’t kill. It’s what makes them popular among the public. These teams aren’t them. What we have here are killers. This list are five of my favorite kill squads.
5. The Boys
Ever wonder what super powered people would be like in real life? They would be just like the rest of the people in the world. Some of them would be good and some of them would be complete a-holes. The Boys are the team put together to keep them in check.
Team Members: Billy Butcher (Leader), Hughie Campbell, Mother’s Milk (M.M.), The Frenchman, and The Female.
Series: The Boys
Issues to Check Out: 1-6 Name of the Game
Writer: Garth Ennis
Reason to Read
Violent, unapologetic, crude, and absolutely necessary. They are completely crazy and their methods are extreme. Once you see why they do what they do, you’ll totally understand why they go to such extreme measures. To punish these “heroes”.
4. Weapon X
The agency that tortured Wolverine and made him indestructible are now secretly funded by the U.S. government. Their goal officially is to control and contain mutants by using mutants and threats to America. Unofficially? Well…
Team Members: Garrison Kane (Field Leader), Aurora, Wild Child, Marrow, Sabretooth, Mesmero, Washout, Sauron, and Agent Zero.
Series: Weapon X
Series to Check Out: Weapon X The Draft trade paperback
Writer: Frank Tieri
Reason to Read
Ok, what won’t they do to get their powers augmented. Watch how the team is assembled and how far some of them will sink to get what they want.
3. Red Hulk’s Thunderbolts
The Avengers are called when aliens attack Earth. But what about the superhuman threats that are two dirty and gritty for The Avengers? That’s when you call one of the most ruthless team ever assembled. Red Hulk’s Thunderbolts.
Team Members: Red Hulk (Team Leader), The Punisher, Deadpool, Elektra, Venom (Flash Thompson), and Elektra.
Issues to Check Out: Issues 1-6 No Quarter
Writer: Daniel Way
Reason to Read:
Easily the most dysfunctional team ever assembled to actually completes their missions. Although, when you have a group of trained killers that know how to get the job done, it’s not shocking that they’re successful.
“X-Men don’t kill. These aren’t the X-Men”. Cyclops needed a team to take out threats to mutants before they could kill the remaining mutants left on Earth. And who better than Wolverine to lead a team of killers.
Team Members: Wolverine (Leader), X-23, Warpath, Archangel, Domino, Elixir, Wolfsbane, and Vanisher.
Issues to Check Out: 1-11 Angels and Demons and Old Ghosts
Writers: Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost
1. The Dark Avengers
A team of villains and killers that Norman Osborn made Avengers. Of course this is a great team. Although, it’s a miracle that they didn’t kill each other.
Team Members: Iron Patriot (Norman Osborn, Team Leader) Ms Marvel (Moonstone, Second in Command), Ares (literally the God of War), Sentry, Hawkeye (Bullseye), Spider-Man (Venom, Mac Gargon), Wolverine (Daken, Son of Wolverine), and Captain Marvel (Noh-Varr).
Series: Dark Avengers
Issues to Check Out: 1-6 Assemble
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis
Reason to Read:
They are group of selfish jerk wads who try to be heroes. Do you really need more of a reason? Ok. How about the fact that they are an Avengers team that kill people?
