I want to suck your blood! Blah, blah, blah. That’s a little inside humor from the first Hotel Transylvania in case you thought I had lost my mind. In the previous installment Dracula’s daughter, Mavis, meets a human named Jonathan. Of course he isn’t supposed to be there since the hotel is for monsters only, but through a series of events they fall for each other. All of the other monsters love Jonathan and the film is wrapped up in a tightly pulled bow. That should have been the end; God knows we didn’t need a sequel. Hollywood loves to keep them coming , yeah I’m talking to you Scary Movie franchise, so here we are for Hotel Transylvania 2. Believe me Dracula wasn’t the only thing that sucked. You see what I did there? Haha ok I’ll keep my wit to myself. Let’s do this.
Hotel Transylvania 2 picks up right where the first left off. The hotel seems to be flourishing very much and the Drac’s family is expanding. Mavis and Jonathan are expecting and Dracula is thrilled. Seeing as he’s half-human, half-vampire his first five years are important because if he doesn’t grow his fangs by then he never will. Drac wants nothing more than to have his grandson be a vampire while Mavis wants him to be a normal child. Then there is some talking here, a little singing there, and finally the credits roll.
This film was OK and that’s being generous. Now if you have children then I’m sure they will get a kick out of it. They will be entertained and you will suffer because of it. ‘Hotel Transylvania 2′ exists just for the sake of existing. There is really no substance that improves upon the original at all. It could have been a great chance to develop a story around Mavis and Jonathan’s family, adjusting to the outside world, and how they fit in. Instead it became a very boring attempt at keeping the story about Drac. To make matters worse Drac seems a bit more obsessed than protective with his daughter. There were some silly moments that made me laugh and even with that I still wanted the hour and a half of my life back. I suggest avoiding this one if possible and if not, well then hopefully you’ll only have to watch it once.
